Effect of climate change 2022 farming season

FOCUS GROUP DISCUSSION (FGD) WITH NIGERIA INCENTIVE-BASED RISK SHARING SYSTEM FOR AGRICULTURAL LENDING (CBN-NIRSAL) ON THE EFFECT OF CLIMATE CHANGE FOR 2020 FARMING SEASON.

Date: 22th August, 2020 Time: 10am Venue: The COME Project Initiative Office, Bosso, Niger State.

The CBN-NIRSAL had a focus group discussion with members of Maize Growers, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria (MAGPAMAN) under the State Chairmanship of Mallam Mustapha D. Muhammad who is also the Chairman of The COME Project Initiative with AFRIHUD as partner organization.

However, the meeting was basically to served a survey Questionnaire to farmers on the effect of climate change for the 2020 agricultural farming season. Farmers responses were; delay on farm inputs supply, unstable rainfall as a result of the climate change, high

level of insects infestation and Disease outbreak.

Consequently, on moving forward, famers made the following recommendations; That CBN-NIRSAL should ensure early access to finance for the farmers, good agricultural policy formation, conduct training for farmers, improve/provide access for agricultural extension services to improve productivity and decrease Crop loss

The Chairman Board of Trustees/ED of AFRIHUD Amb. Umar Yakubu Doshiro encouraged farmers to always adopt and diffused the Agricultural Innovations and promised that AFRIHUD will support farmers with Agricultural Extension Services
